2018 ArtWalk Dates

 November 3

ArtWalk Hours – Saturday, 11–6

Get a jump on holiday shopping and revel in Newburyport’s art scene on Saturday, November 3, 2018 for the final ArtWalk of the year. More than 20 Newburyport galleries and partner sites collaborate to offer demonstrations, special exhibits, artist discussions, outdoor sculpture, jewelry, gifts and more in a casual reception environment.

The public is invited to take the self-guided tour to see art of all styles and tastes, shop, dine, and explore this historic port city's Cultural District. Meet the artists, learn how they make their creations, and spark your imagination.

A free brochure/map of all venues is available at participating galleries, the Newburyport Chamber of Commerce, the passageway between State and Inn Street and at ArtWalk Partners' locations.

In addition to programming at the ArtWalk shops and galleries, there will be a special event for children.  Kate Sullivan, an artist whose work is featured at the Paula Estey Gallery and the Newburyport Art Association, will read from her latest book from 10-11 a.m. at The Book Rack Bookstore at 52 State St. in Newburyport. “What Do You Hear?” (Schiffer Publishing) is a picture book for children featuring 10 quirky animal musicians and their Billy Goat conductor. Her presentation will include live demonstrations of musical instruments and participative music-making, perhaps some making of a simple instrument, all culminating in a grand parade. To enjoy a video that enhances the experience, visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dESFSuvAj9c. Sullivan is also the author of “On Linden Square” and “It's a Dog’s Life,” an on-going series of drawings for the Newburyport Daily News.

The Nov. 3rd ArtWalk also features:

Newburyport Art Association: The NAA’s Fall Member Juried Show Part Two is on display from Nov. 2-17. For this ArtWalk, there will be a special gallery talk by Jeffrey Brigs from 3-4:30 p.m. entitled “An Artist’s Talk: Jeff Briggs – The Greenway Carousel & the Fox.”  Briggs is best known as the designer, sculptor and art director of The Greenway Carousel Boston. He and Lindley Briggs operate a business that has created work for many high-end companies such as Bloomingdale’s, FAO Schwartz and Disneyland. The presentation features the creative process used in the development of one of the Greenway Carousel characters – the Fox. Members $20; Non-members $25 Registration online at www.newburyportart.org or by contacting the gallery at 978.465.8769. 65 Water Street, Newburyport

Indigo Artist Studio: Local printmaker, Barbara Nachmias-Kedesdy, will be showcased at Indigo Artist Studio. Barbara is a printmaker who loves to draw and uses her garden as inspiration. She is known for her delicate hand in portraying her botanical interests and local landscape in a very personal style which includes stitchery, collage and monotype techniques. Studio artist Mary Arthur Pollak, with her signature monotype and mixed media work, will be joining Barbara.  A variety of prints, new and previously viewed, will be display including small encaustic pieces and larger monotypes.  Original “one of a kind” cards, gift certificates and art for gifts or for your home will be available. Stop by Indigo Artist Studio from 11am-6pm to visit with the artists, learn about printmaking, and enjoy our refreshments. 53 Middle Street, Newburyport

Valerie's Gallery:  Portsmouth, NH-based Potter Erin Moran will be on hand from 1-4 p.m. makes her vibrant, colorful pottery using her hands (not wheel thrown). All of her cups and bowls are done by hand building – either by pinching a ball of clay into a cup or bowl or pounding out a slab of clay for plates. With this process, her finger prints are left on each piece and leave a wonderfully tactile surface. Because of this process, no two pieces are ever the same. Erin is intrigued by both surrealism and folk art and her work is a blend of the two. The vibrant pottery brings a smile to everyone who sees (and feels) it. The event is family friendly and light refreshments will be served. 26 State Street, Newburyport

Firehouse Center for the Arts: Stop by the IFS Gallery at the Firehouse for the final weekend of Objects of Rust Lust: A collection of striking images by Dmitri Serdukoff that puts simple objects - mechanisms, torn and twisted iron, steel, and rust - that usually receive little notice at the center of attention as they are: naturally beautiful. Market Square, Newburyport

Alan Bull Studio: Painter Alan Bull will feature brand new paintings of trucks, trains and trolleys with a preview of his 2019 calendar, as well as a selection from my ongoing Noir series. In addition, he has a pop up show on view now at Riverwalk Brewing Co. at 40 Parker Street in Newburyport. Riverwalk is open noon-10 p.m. and Alan Bull be on hand there after my studio closes at 6 p.m. 14 Market Square, Newburyport

Sweethaven Gallery:  Come celebrate the final ArtWalk at Sweethaven Gallery featuring B&W and color flower and still life photographs by Ezra Sesto and contemporary acrylic glass, metal and traditional landscape photographs by Greg Nikas. Open from 1 – 6pm and light refreshments will be served. 25L Inn Street, Newburyport

Paula Estey Gallery (PEG):  Paula Estey Gallery is pleased to host a featured artist exhibition of the fabulous woodcut art of Hamilton, MA, artist, Jen Groeber.  Join us for a Saturday evening reception for the artist! Come and view her more than 25 new works for this show. Jen's woodcuts are often of family and children and iconic childhood scenes, always with a slight shadow, a little bit of an edge--which is why we love them so much. This reception is free and open to the public. 3 Harris Street, Newburyport

Connor Summers Gallery: Find an array of fine art by Marcia Hermann, Michael Updike, Maria Malatesta, Janice Eaton Updike , Gordon Przybyla, and gallery owner Cathy Connor. See more online at our new web address: www.connorsummersgallery.com  48 Market Street, Newburyport
