On Jan. 11, 2014, Protection #2, Newbury’s volunteer fire company, along with Historic New England and Tendercrop Farm, will host the 4th Annual Old Newbury Bonfire fundraiser.
This fun family event commemorates the original purchase of the town on January 13, 1701, with a three-story Christmas tree bonfire. In addition to this featured event, families will enjoy music, games, tours, crafts, food, and the company of thousands of their neighbors!
There is also a fun, high-energy auction with prizes like a ride to school in a fire truck, cords of wood, original art. One lucky winner will be the official lighter of the bonfire!
The Old Newbury Bonfire is free with a $5 parking fee and additional cost for food and drink. Donations are always welcome. The 1690 Spencer-Peirce-Little House will be open for tours from 3-6 p.m.
This year’s event continues to raise funds to purchase a new ambulance to replace one built in 1998, at the cost of approximately $142,000. Protection Fire Company #2 is a Non-profit 501 (c) 3 that owns all its own equipment and buildings. It operates with a minimal budget, saving the taxpayers of Newbury valuable dollars.
